Questions, answered.

The stuff people ask me most — about choosing pickups, fitting them, wiring them, and getting them to your door. If your question isn't here, just reach out. We respond to every question directly.

01Choosing your pickups

What's the difference between the Crema and the Grinder?

They're voiced for two different jobs. The Crema is the cleaner, more scooped of the two — sparkle, clarity, and room to breathe. The Grinder brings more midrange, compression, and output, so it's the one for lead lines that stay tight and cut through a dense mix.

Plenty of players run a Crema neck with a Grinder bridge and get both. You can build that pairing from the Crema page — just choose the Grinder as your bridge model.

Which set should I get for worship, CCM, or 80s-style playing?

My go-to is a Grinder bridge and Crema neck. The Grinder gives compressed lead lines with enough clarity to cut a mid-heavy church mix, and the Crema neck keeps your cleans sweet and articulate. This set does just about everything and we know you'll love it.

I have an HSS guitar — which humbucker balances best with the single coils?

The Grinder is the most popular HSS bridge — it balances output with the single coils so you don't get a volume jump when switching. If you'd rather keep things cleaner, the Crema is the smoothest tonal transition and my (Kurtis) personal favorite.

What are the V90, Ristretto, and Red Eye — when would I pick one?

Red Eye is our higher-output humbucker — reach for it over the Grinder when you want more push and a vintage-hot bridge.

V90 is a P90 voicing in a humbucker-sized housing. As a true single coil it has some natural 60-cycle hum; the middle position is in-phase and partially hum-cancelling when combined with a humbucker.

Ristretto is our P90 / Jazzmaster voicing — open, dynamic, full of character. Hum-canceling in the middle position.

How do your pickups compare to Gibson, Lollar, or Fralin?

In broad terms, ours tend to have more headroom and added clarity — especially in the neck. We specialize in clarity and note articulation rather than thick, woolly voicings. If you're chasing that darker, fatter sound, I'll always tell you honestly when something else is a better fit and we have happily sent many folks over to our friends at Lollar, Fralin, McNelly, Curtis Novak, The Creamery, DiMarzio, etc.

02Will they fit my guitar?

How do I know if Lambertones will drop into my guitar?

It comes down to three things: string spacing, the route / cavity size, and whether your guitar takes humbucker-, P90-, or Filter'Tron-sized pickups. Covered humbuckers are forgiving on spacing — the magnet bar runs perpendicular to the strings, so exact pole alignment isn't critical.

Fastest path to a confident answer: send a clear, well-lit photo of your guitar and current pickups, and we'll tell you exactly what fits.

Will your pickups fit my Gretsch?

Our Lamber'Tron is a vintage-sized Filter'Tron. If your Gretsch is routed for vintage Filter'Trons (like a G5420T), it'll fit. If it's routed for full-size humbuckers, a Tron won't fit or look right. Depending on the model, we may have adapter rings. Send a photo and we'll confirm which you've got and your options.

Do you make pickups in F-spacing or custom spacing?

We do — it's just not a standard site option, and not every finish/design option is available, so we handle it with a custom invoice and it is considered a custom pickup. Let us know the cover style and finish you want, and we'll quote it.

Can I buy just the neck or just the bridge pickup?

Yes — order an individual humbucker from our single-humbucker page (USA available only).

One honest caveat: we usually steer people away from a single single-coil. Our sets are wound and matched to stay in-phase and hum-canceling together, so a lone single coil can cause phasing issues with whatever you pair it with.

An individual humbucker or an individual single coil is considered a "custom pickup" and not eligible for return. Please see our policy here for more details.

03Wiring & installation

Do I need the 2-wire, 3-wire, or 4-wire option?

For humbuckers:

  • 4-wire — if you have a push/pull pot, a 5-way switch, or a mini-toggle (anything that coil-splits).
  • 2-wire — if you have a simple 1 volume / 1 tone, or even a 2 volume / 2 tone setup with a 3-way switch.

For the Blondie's:

  • 3-wire — future-proofs you for an independent ground, an S1 switch, or series/parallel switching later. A must if you have a 4-way switch. Still works with a 3-way switch configuration.
  • 2-wire — if you have a traditional 3-way switch, this gets the job done perfectly.
What's your wiring color code?

Same for neck and bridge humbuckers:

Green = Hot (+) · Black = (−) · Bare = Ground · Red + White = Series link

Check our diagrams HERE first. If ours don't match your exact setup, use any standard humbucker diagram (a 920D or guitarelectronics.com diagram works well) and apply our colors.

Is the middle position hum-cancelling? Are your pickups RWRP?

Yes — the middle pickup is reverse-wound / reverse-polarity, so you get hum-canceling in positions 2 and 4 (of the Triple Shots), or position 2 (Blondie or Ristretto). In our builds the RWRP is physical (built into the winding and magnet), so both pickups use identical lead colors — making it simple to wire.

Should I use 250k or 500k pots?

500k is ideal for our humbuckers, V90, Ristretto, and Lamber'Tron. 250k–300k works too — you'll get a slightly smoother, rolled-off top end, which some players prefer.

250k is highly recommended for any of our single coil models.

Do I have to solder? How hard is the install?

If you'd rather not solder, choose the solderless version of our wiring harnesses if one is compatible for your guitar (but check with us first before ordering, as wiring harnesses are non-refundable).

For loaded pickguards, the HSS Obsidian harness is fully solder-free and still coil-splits the bridge; a standard SSS pickguard needs just three solder joints. The Jazzmaster loaded pickguard just needs one.

How should I set my pickup height?

About 3–5/32 inch is a good starting point, assuming your neck and frets are properly set up. From there, trust your ears. We have a height guide that walks you through dialing it in.

04Covers & customization

Can I change the cover color or have a set aged?

Absolutely. A cover swap is $50 per set + shipping, and we re-pot the pickups while they're here. We offer a range of aging levels too. Ship them in with a note and your contact info, and we'll invoice you before sending them back.

Do flat covers and open (adjustable) covers sound different?

Not in any meaningful way — it's a look-and-feel choice. Pick whichever suits your guitar; the tonal difference is negligible.

05Ordering, shipping & lead time

What's your lead time? Can I rush my order?

Standard lead time is 4–5 weeks (occasionally 6 in busy stretches — every set is built to order in Southern California).

Need it sooner? A pickup rush is $150 and ships within 1–3 business days. A loaded-pickguard rush is $250 and ships within 5 business days.

Do you ship internationally? Will I get hit with customs fees?

Yes — we ship to 50+ countries. All duties and taxes are collected at checkout through our global shipping platform, so the price you see is the final price. Nothing extra is owed on arrival. Just select your country's currency at the top of the site before checking out.

What's included in a set?

For humbuckers: A set is the neck and bridge pickups plus all appropriate mounting hardware

For single coils: A set is the neck and bridge pickups (unless it's a Nashville tele or a strat set, those include middle pickups)

When am I charged? Can I pay over time?

Payment is taken up front. To spread it out, use the Shop Pay installment plan offered at checkout.

How do returns, warranty, and repairs work?

For a return, log into your account and follow the instructions in our refund policy. For a repair or warranty look, use our warranty/repair request form. If it's a noise issue, include a short video — it helps us pinpoint the problem much faster.

No matches. Try a different word, or email us — we read every message.

Still have a question?

If it's not here, send it over — especially fitment questions. A clear photo of your guitar gets you a confident answer fast.
